"Away from the crowds in the honey-spots of the Lake District, the village of Boot is like a scene from a movie, a small row of cottages with a pub and a post office, an old mill – and Select Cottages' farmhouse and other cottages. The Farmhouse is really old, with thick walls and a cute garden from which we picked apples to make into apple crumble. It has a modern kitchen and feels very homely. The situation is terrific, surrounded by fells and the nearest pub only fifty metres away. It is a brilliant place for a walking holiday and for exploring Eskdale, which reallly is one of the most lovely valleys in the Lakes. I have been going there for my holidays for years and the Farmhouse is one of our favourite bases. And you must take a ride or two on the La'al Ratty, the minature steam railway that goes down to the coast from a station just down the road. The trip is 40 minutes of bliss. You hear the toot toot of the train and you are back in your childhood (I think I have been on it nearly every year of my life and I am now 57!!!). If the Farmhouse is full the other cottages are worth looking at too. Have fun."
