Just come back from a superb 10 day holiday at Scafell Cottage.
The house was perfectly equipped and we were met by the owner who proceeded to take an hour out to show us the best walks, fishing and things to do with the kids.
The property is comfortably furnished (would have loved a bigger double bed and a real fire but they were the only minor gripes!) and led out to a large open plan garden which is shared with the other 3 cottages and lead down to a stream where our kids (boys aged 4, 9 and 12) spent many a happy hour.
The cottage leads out onto several walks direct from the doorstep as well as easy hopping (between 50m and 200m) distance to 2 great pubs with another 2 superb ones less than a mile away.
It's close to Wastwater which is at the bottom of the magnificent Scafell Pike which we climbed one day (allow 5 hours with kids and not under 7!) Wastwater itself is one of the less touristy lakes and is stunning.
All in all couldn't recommend both the property and area enough and can't wait to go back.
