"The Villa, an idyllic, terraced, hillside retreat, is set in beautiful olive groves, luxuriant with lavender and humming with cicadas, overlooking the picturesque medieval village of Claviers, perched on its pine-clad ridge of rock across the valley.
The holiday villa more than lived up to its name. The spacious rooms and lounges descended the hillside on three levels, and opened onto a variety of lavender scented terraces where the swimming pool (frequently and discreetly serviced), outdoor barbecue and dining areas were beautifully located.
The sunsets over the mountains were magically memorable. The house itself was elegantly furnished with everything you could need, and the charming, friendly and efficient concierge and her handyman husband were always available from the village only minutes away; indeed, they had left welcoming food and drink for our arrival – a characteristically generous gesture from Greg Poole of 'Select Cottages'.
We dined splendidly, at reasonable prices, in several local villages and, of course, made the most of this area, poised within easy reach of the beauties of the Cote d'Azur to the South and the spectacular mountains and Gorges of Verdun to the North.
Both the villa and our holiday there were uniquely enchanting. We certainly hope to return one day."
