Excellent location, pubs, & good walks nearby, superb accommodation – I have just reviewed another cottage (Stanley Ghyll) which is in the same fantastic location – so i won't repeat myself too much on the location side of this one. This is the first cottage we stayed in in Eskdale – and clearly we liked the location and cottages so much we came back only a few weeks later! This particular cottage, Hardknott, is fine, but we did prefer Stanley Ghyll cottage. Just need to mind your head on the way in!. As with the other cottage we stayed in, the place was very clean, well organised and had everything we needed (I think the only other thing I brought the second time was my egg poacher!). Great place for walks – you can get access to the "regular" lakes via the hardknott pass which is kinda fun but you need to drive carefully – you can always use another route if you prefer. Plenty of pubs nearby with interestingly named ales and good food. So – what's not to like?
